Sports Betting

Betting on sporting events is currently illegal in all states except Nevada. Why?  A lot of states have riverboat casinos and most states have their lottery. In my state we have the lottery, land based casinos, riverboat casinos, and video poker machines in almost every bar room. But we can't make a 20 dollar bet on the superbowl? Of course we have bookies all over taking bets under the table, but why not make it legal and tax them like any other business. I know they have websites out there like betonsports .com and bodog.com but it is still illegal in some way.  I feel if your state has casinos and has a lottery, they should allow bookies to take bets.  Thoughts?

This really seems like a no brainer, but why is it that no state has joined Nevada in this?  I don't see a big difference between sports gambling and lotteries.  Of course regulation is needed, but we have that for lotteries and casinos.

Good post Isle, another thing is Horse Racing, we have tracks everywhere where you can bet horses anytime of the day, but it's illegal to make a bet on a football game.

Yeah GTA...doesn't seem to have any logic ...makes you wonder if MLB, NFL, etc. put pressure on states to keep sports betting out of thier sports
